Adam's Kayaking Here are my kayaking routes from 2009. Some of the early ones on Mitchell Lake are not listed here, but now that I've got the GPS working I'll try to post my recent trips. Kayak: 9.5 foot Perception Swifty (flatwater, recreational kayak - this thing won't set any speed records, in fact the fastest I've got it going according to the GPS was just over 5 mph, comfortable paddling speed of about 3 mph) NEW - I just got a brand new Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 touring kayak, and with the relatively warm November we're having in 2009 I was able to take it out on the lake and so far I'm impressed - very stable and from what I can tell so far, about 25% faster than the old kayak! GPS: Garmin Mobile 10 (Bluetooth GPS reciever) with Motorola Q smartphone (all in a dry bag). GPX file downloaded from phone, imported into Google Earth, tracks are then exported in .KML format for use in Google Maps. This is the same GPS I use for turn by turn road navigation, but consequently it has the outlines of all lakes, including all the small lakes in the southwest Twin Cities - unlike the sub $250 GPS units I looked at recently.
